Centre Revises Family Pension Rules for Parents of Govt Employees
Imagine a government worker's parents get a special monthly payment, called a family pension, after their child passes away.
If both parents are alive, they get a bigger amount.
But before, there wasn't a good way to know if one parent had sadly passed away.
This meant sometimes families kept getting the bigger amount even when they shouldn't.
Now, the government is saying that both parents have to prove they are still alive every year by showing a 'life certificate.'
This is like showing an ID to prove you're still here.
If they don't do this every year by November 30th, they might stop getting their pension money for a while.
This rule helps make sure the right amount of money goes to the right people.
Parents of deceased government employees must now submit annual life certificates to claim enhanced family pension.
The new rule requires both parents to submit their life certificates to continue receiving the 75% rate.
If one parent passes away, the family pension will automatically be reduced to 60%.
This clarification addresses a gap in existing rules where enhanced pensions might have continued erroneously.
The deadline for submitting the life certificate is November 30th each year, with pensions potentially stopped if missed.
