India Achieves Defense Milestone With Indigenous Gun Barrels
India has started making its own gun barrels for the Navy's main gun, the SRGM, at a factory in Kanpur.
Before, these barrels were bought from other countries or made with help from foreign companies.
A team of Indian engineers worked for three years to make these new barrels.
The SRGM gun is fast and accurate, used to shoot at targets like planes and missiles.
This change will save money and help India rely less on other countries for its defense needs.
The government also made a deal to upgrade more of these gun systems.
India begins indigenous production of gun barrels for the Indian Navy's SRGM.
Gun barrels are now manufactured at the Field Gun Factory in Kanpur.
Two locally-made barrels have been delivered to the Navy; future warships will use these.
A team of 12 Indian engineers developed the barrels over three years.
The Ministry of Defence signed a contract with BHEL Haridwar for upgraded SRGM systems.
