Amazon Leo: New Satellite Internet Service to Rival Starlink
Amazon is starting its own satellite internet service called Amazon Leo.
It will use many small satellites that fly close to Earth to give people in far away places fast and reliable internet.
Amazon is making lots of these satellites every day and has already made over 150.
They will have different boxes for people to use to get the internet, like Leo Nano, Pro, and Ultra.
This service will start for some businesses at the end of next year and then be available to more people the year after.
Amazon officially announced Amazon Leo, its satellite internet service previously known as Project Kuiper.
Leo aims to provide stable internet access to underserved communities, especially in remote areas worldwide.
The service will use an initial constellation of 3,000 satellites in Low-Earth Orbit (LEO) between 590-630 km above Earth.
Amazon has secured over 80 launch contracts, marking the largest commercial launch procurement to date.
Customer terminals, including Leo Nano, Pro, and Ultra, will offer speeds ranging from up to 100Mbps to 1Gbps, with service expected to begin for enterprise customers in late 2025.
