Independent Candidate Shot in Dhaka
A man named Sharif Osman Hadi, who was running to be a member of parliament in Dhaka, was shot and hurt badly on Friday afternoon.
The shooting happened in a busy area of Dhaka called Paltan–Bijoynagar.
The police say that some men on motorcycles came and shot Hadi before running away.
He was taken to the hospital where he is now in the intensive care unit.
Before the shooting, Hadi had written on Facebook that he had received threats.
He is part of a group called Inqilab Moncho that speaks out against unfairness and discrimination.
While a journalist named Risan was covering the story, he was attacked by Hadi's supporters at the hospital.
Sharif Osman Hadi, an independent MP candidate from Dhaka-8, was shot and critically injured in Dhaka’s Paltan–Bijoynagar area on Friday afternoon.
The attack occurred around 2:20 – 2:25 pm in front of DR Tower on Bijoynagar’s Box Culvert Road.
Hadi was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital and is currently in the ICU receiving critical care.
According to police reports, the assailants arrived on three motorcycles and fled the scene after shooting Hadi.
Hadi had previously posted on Facebook about receiving threats, including threats to his life and his family.
