CJP Seeks 20-Year Ban for MPs and MLAs Who Defect

CJP Seeks 20-Year Ban for MPs and MLAs Who Defect

A group called CJP wants strict punishment for lawmakers who switch parties after being elected.

It says these lawmakers should be stopped from running for office for 20 years.

They would also be barred from holding any public position during that period.

The proposal concerns MPs and MLAs elected using one party’s symbol.

It applies when they later move to another party.

The post says this can happen because of money or pressure.

Senior Advocate Kapil Sibal has suggested a shorter, 10-year ban.

The two proposals differ mainly in how long the punishment should last.
