Zelensky Says Ukraine Could Hold Elections After 60-Day Ceasefire

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said Ukraine’s people should choose their own leader.

US President Donald Trump had called for Ukraine to elect a new president who would agree to a peace deal.

Zelensky said Ukraine could hold elections if Russia agreed to stop fighting for 60 days.

He said Ukraine was ready for a ceasefire if Russia agreed.

Zelensky also said Ukraine was counting on support from the United States and European partners.

Trump said Russia and Ukraine had agreed to an energy ceasefire, but Zelensky said he knew of no such agreement.

Zelensky said Russian attacks had hit energy infrastructure and killed 153 civilians.

He hoped the disagreement would not weaken unity among Ukraine’s allies.
