CPI MP Criticizes Economic Survey on RTI Act
A member of parliament from the Communist Party of India (CPI) named P Sandosh Kumar wrote a letter to the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi.
He was upset about something called the Economic Survey 2025–26.
This survey suggested that a law called the Right to Information (RTI) Act might need to be changed.
The RTI Act is a law that lets people ask the government for information, which helps keep the government honest.
Sandosh Kumar said that changing this law would be a bad idea because it would make the government less transparent and more likely to be corrupt.
He also said that the government has already made it harder to use the RTI Act over the past decade.
He asked the Prime Minister to remove the parts of the survey that talk about changing the RTI Act and to promise to keep the law strong.
CPI MP P Sandosh Kumar wrote to PM Modi criticizing the Economic Survey 2025–26's stance on the RTI Act.
Kumar argued that the RTI Act is crucial for transparency and democratic accountability.
He claimed that the survey's suggestion to reexamine the RTI Act could legitimize corruption and shield wrongdoing.
Kumar alleged that the RTI framework has been weakened under the BJP-led NDA rule, particularly with amendments in 2019.
He urged the Prime Minister to remove the relevant portions on RTI from the Economic Survey and reaffirm the government's commitment to transparency.
