Malaysian Athletes Train at SAI Ahead of Asian Games
Two Malaysian runners came to India for a month of training.
They trained at a Sports Authority of India centre in Thiruvananthapuram.
Their coach wanted them to experience Indian facilities and train with Indian athletes.
He said this was useful preparation for the Asian Games.
The athletes also competed in a track event in Bhubaneswar.
Their coach chose India because Asian competition was more important for them than European competition.
He said the Indian experience could improve their race strategies.
He called the Thiruvananthapuram centre a “lucky training centre.”
He also said exchanges could help athletes from both countries improve.
Two Malaysian runners completed a month-long training camp at SAI LNCPE Thiruvananthapuram on September 10.
Wan Muhammad Fazri and Umar Osman trained under Malaysian head coach Mohamed Azarudeen.
The camp aimed to expose the athletes to Indian facilities, competition and training partners ahead of the 2026 Asian Games.
The athletes also competed at the World Athletics Continental Tour Silver-level meeting in Bhubaneswar on August 22.
Azarudeen called SAI Thiruvananthapuram a “lucky training centre” and supported greater India-Malaysia sports exchanges.
