Australia Moves to Restrict Family Visas for International Students

Australia Moves to Restrict Family Visas for International Students

Australia is changing its rules for some international students.

Most students will not be able to bring their spouses or children on their student visas.

Some students from Pacific and Southeast Asian countries will be exempt.

Students in certain courses, including PhD programs, may also be exempt.

Families already in Australia under current arrangements will not be split up.

This could make Australia harder to choose for Indian students with families.

They may need to study alone or consider another country.

The government says the change will give it more control over migration.

International students are also important to Australia’s economy.
