IndiGo Raises Pilot Allowances Amid Industry Challenges
IndiGo, a big airline in India, is giving its pilots more money for different types of work starting January 1.
This is because IndiGo had to cancel many flights recently, which caused problems.
The airline wants to keep its pilots happy and make sure flights run smoothly.
At the same time, the whole aviation industry in India is expected to lose a lot of money this year because fewer people are flying.
This is due to several reasons, including the Air India plane crash in June and the recent flight cancellations by IndiGo.
The Indian government is also trying to stop other countries from taking away Indian pilots by asking for better rules.
The government is looking at a report about why IndiGo had so many flight cancellations and will take action based on that report.
IndiGo has increased pilot allowances for domestic layovers, deadhead trips, night flying, and tail-swaps effective January 1.
Domestic layover payments for stays between 10 and 24 hours have been raised by 50%, with first officers now receiving ₹1,500 and captains ₹3,000.
Deadhead allowances have increased by 33.3%, with first officers now paid ₹2,000 and captains ₹4,000 per planned block hour.
Night flying allowances have been reworked to a flat rate of ₹1,000 for first officers and ₹2,000 for captains per night.
A new tail-swap allowance has been introduced, paying first officers ₹750 and captains ₹1,500 for switching aircraft during the same duty period.
