BJP Forms Kolkata, Howrah Poll Panels Ahead Of Elections
The BJP has created two teams to prepare for local elections in Kolkata and Howrah.
One team will work in Kolkata, and another will work in Howrah.
Sukanta Majumdar will lead the Kolkata team, while Rahul Sinha will lead the Howrah team.
Other BJP leaders will help organise candidates and campaigns.
The teams will also work with party workers at polling booths.
A proposed law would change the number of wards in both cities.
The articles give different accounts of when Howrah last held elections, saying either 2013 or 2018.
The election dates and final ward boundaries have not yet been announced.
The Bengal BJP formed separate election committees for the Kolkata and Howrah municipal elections.
Sukanta Majumdar will head the Kolkata committee, with Tapas Roy as convenor and Anindya Banerjee as co-in-charge.
Rahul Sinha will lead the Howrah committee, while Sanjay Kumar Singh will serve as convenor.
The committees are expected to handle candidate selection, campaign planning, booth mobilisation and ground-level coordination.
The polls may take place later this year, but the final schedule remains unannounced amid proposed ward delimitation.

Opposition parties and BJP sources argue that residents need directly elected councillors to address ward-level grievances and improve accountability for services such as drainage, roads, waste management and water supply.
Administrative arrangements and proposed delimitation
The articles report that Kolkata and Howrah have operated without regular elected civic boards or councillors, but they do not provide a detailed public defense of continuing those arrangements.

Supporters of elected civic bodies
Supporters of redrawing wards say differences in population and voter strength require a more balanced distribution of constituencies.

The proposed changes would alter the existing electoral map and increase Kolkata’s wards from 144 to 209 and Howrah’s from 50 to 68, while final boundaries remain pending.
