India Updates Ride-Sharing Rules: Peak Hour Surge Allowed
The government has changed the rules for ride-sharing services like Uber and Ola.
Now, these companies can charge up to twice the normal price during busy times.
They also have to charge at least half the normal price during slow times.
Fares are calculated to cover the distance a car travels before picking up a passenger.
If a driver or passenger cancels without a good reason, they'll be charged a small fee.
Government allows cab aggregators to charge up to twice the base fare during peak hours.
Non-peak hour fares must be at least 50% of the base fare.
Base fare is for a minimum of three kilometers to cover 'dead mileage'.
States have three months to adopt the revised guidelines.
Penalties apply for unexcused cancellations by drivers or passengers.
