Taj Mahal Hotels Challenge Electricity Surcharges in Court
The Taj Mahal Hotels in Hyderabad are in a legal fight with the electricity company, TGSPDCL.
The hotels say they shouldn't have to pay a big electricity bill of about ₹1 crore.
This bill is for extra charges from many years ago, from 2005 to 2015.
The electricity company says the hotels must pay at least half of the bill or they might cut off the power.
The court is concerned and wants to know why the electricity company is asking the court to cut off the power.
The court has given the hotels more time to explain their side and will hear the case again on January 21.
Taj Mahal Hotels and associated entities are challenging a ₹1 crore electricity surcharge imposed by TGSPDCL for the period 2005-06 to 2014-15.
The dispute arises from tariff orders issued by the Telangana Electricity Regulatory Commission (TERC).
TGSPDCL issued separate demand notices to the hotels, totaling approximately ₹1 crore.
The High Court has adjourned the hearing to January 21, granting the petitioner hotels an opportunity to submit further contentions.
The court expressed concern over TGSPDCL's request to disconnect electricity supply and questioned the propriety of such a request.
