Supreme Court Warns Telangana Speaker: Decide on MLAs' Disqualification or Face Contempt
The Supreme Court is telling the Telangana Assembly Speaker that he must decide if 10 MLAs who left their party should be kicked out of the state government or not.
The Speaker was supposed to do this already, but he didn't.
Now, the Supreme Court is giving him one more week to make a decision, or he might get in trouble with the court.
The Speaker has already talked to most of the MLAs about this, but two haven't responded yet.
The Supreme Court issued a notice to Telangana Assembly Speaker Gaddam Prasad, asking him to decide on the disqualification of 10 BRS MLAs within a week.
The apex court warned that failure to comply could result in contempt of court proceedings.
The Speaker has been given a deadline of December 5 to decide the matter, with the Chief Justice stating, 'It is for the Speaker to decide the matter or face the contempt of the court. Finish it by next week or face contempt.'
The Speaker's office had earlier sought more time, with the initial three-month deadline ending on October 31.
The Speaker has so far issued notices to all 10 MLAs, with eight having responded and appeared for hearings.
