Supreme Court Allows Ending Migrant Protections, Again
The Supreme Court has allowed the Trump administration to potentially deport over half a million migrants from several countries, including Cuba, Haiti, Nicaragua, and Venezuela.
These migrants were previously allowed to live and work in the U.S. The court reversed a decision by a lower court that was protecting these migrants.
The administration argued that the protections were always meant to be temporary.
The case now goes back to a lower court for further review.
The Supreme Court cleared the way for the Trump administration to end temporary legal protections for over 500,000 migrants.
The decision affects migrants from Cuba, Haiti, Nicaragua, and Venezuela.
The court lifted a lower-court order that had blocked the administration's action.
The Trump administration previously sought to end similar protections for 350,000 Venezuelan migrants.
The case now returns to the 1st US Circuit Court of Appeals in Boston.
