Lillete Dubey’s ‘Autobiography’ Opens WOPA Winter Fest
The play 'Autobiography' opened the WOPA Winter Festival in Pune.
Directed by Lillete Dubey, it's about a famous writer, Anantrao Rajadhyaksha, who is writing his life story.
He tells it to a young student, Pradnya.
But as he talks, other people from his past, like his ex-wife Uttara and her sister Vasanti, come forward and say his story isn't completely true.
The play shows how memory can be tricky and how different people remember things differently.
It's not a loud, exciting show, but a quiet one that makes you think.
Lillete Dubey directed the English adaptation of Mahesh Elkunchwar’s Marathi play 'Atmakatha', titled 'Autobiography'.
The play opened the WOPA Winter Festival at Yerawada’s Creativity Amphitheatre in Pune on January 11.
It follows Anantrao Rajadhyaksha, a celebrated writer, as he dictates his autobiography to a young PhD student, Pradnya.
The narrative becomes contested as figures from Anantrao’s past, including his ex-wife Uttara and her sister Vasanti, challenge his version of events.
The play explores themes of memory, power, and truth in a quiet, reflective manner.
