Nepal Forms Panel to Investigate Deadly Bhotekoshi Floods

Nepal Forms Panel to Investigate Deadly Bhotekoshi Floods

Nepal is investigating a very large flood that happened on August 26.

The flood began near the Nepal-Tibet border and moved down the Bhotekoshi River.

It destroyed homes, roads, bridges, vehicles and some hydropower projects.

More than 1,400 people died, and over 6,000 people are still missing.

Nepal chose seven experts to study what happened.

They will examine glaciers, rocks, water and the possible effects of climate change.

Nepal’s first assessment could not prove the exact cause.

However, the United States Geological Survey and Chinese authorities said a glacier collapse may have triggered the flood.

The experts are expected to provide an initial report within one month.
