India Races to Expand Piped Gas as Connections Run Dry

India Races to Expand Piped Gas as Connections Run Dry

India uses a lot of cooking gas called LPG.

It buys 65% of this LPG from other countries.

Most of those imports depend on supplies from West Asia, where war has disrupted trade.

Because of this, the government wants people to use less LPG.

It is promoting PNG, or piped natural gas, as another cooking fuel.

PNG supplies have not been affected so far because India gets them from gas produced inside the country.

However, nearly one-third of PNG connections are reportedly running out of supply.

India is therefore trying to increase its piped-gas supply.
