Maharashtra Cotton Cultivation Declines Due to High Costs and Mechanization Issues

Farmers in Maharashtra are growing less cotton because it's becoming too expensive and difficult.

Picking cotton by hand requires a lot of workers, and paying them is costly, especially when bad weather makes the cotton hard to pick.

Also, the machines that are supposed to help pick cotton don't work very well and pick up too many leaves.

Because of these problems, many farmers are choosing to grow soybeans instead, which are easier and cheaper to farm.

Experts are trying to find ways to make cotton farming better, like creating new machines and growing shorter cotton plants.

Meanwhile, India is also expected to import more cotton than it exports in the coming year.
