HMT Watches applies for strike-off
HMT Watches Ltd, a famous watch company in India, has asked the government to remove its name from the company records.
This means the company will no longer exist legally.
The government had already decided in 2016 to close this company and two others because they were not making money.
The process of removing the company's name is called a strike-off, and it happens when a company stops doing business or has been inactive for a long time.
Once the name is removed, the company can't do any more business unless it goes through a legal process to be restored.
HMT Watches Ltd applied for strike-off with the MCA on January 5, 2026.
The application was made under Section 248 of the Companies Act, 2013.
The move follows a 2016 CCEA approval to close three loss-making subsidiaries of HMT Ltd.
The strike-off process removes a company's name from the official register, ending its legal existence.
The company will no longer be able to conduct business unless restored through legal process.
