OpenAI Urges Responsible AI Use While Preserving Student Learning

OpenAI says AI can help students learn, but it should not do all the thinking for them.

Students should work without AI during tests and when they are practising basic skills.

They should also avoid putting sensitive personal information into AI tools.

A study of more than 300 college students found that students using a special Study Mode did better in microeconomics.

However, results in neuroscience were mixed, so researchers need more evidence.

Study Mode tries to help by asking questions and giving hints instead of immediately providing answers.

Students should check AI answers because they can sound confident while being wrong.

By 2030, being AI-literate should mean knowing how to use, question and verify AI.

It should also mean understanding when human judgement and independent work are more important.
