Rupee Hits Record Low Against Dollar
The Indian rupee, which is the money used in India, became weaker than ever before compared to the US dollar.
This happened because people are worried about the economy and there is a lot of demand for US dollars from people who need to buy things from other countries, especially precious metals.
There is also uncertainty about a big trade agreement between India and the US.
The rupee becoming weaker means that things that are bought from other countries might become more expensive in India.
The Indian stock market, however, went up a little bit.
The central bank of India might be trying to help, but not very much.
The rupee has become weaker by more than 5% in 2025, which is a lot compared to other currencies.
The Indian rupee hit a new record low of 90.49 against the US dollar on Friday.
The decline was attributed to uncertainty over the India-US trade deal and strong US dollar demand from importers, particularly for precious metals.
The rupee opened at 90.43 and fell further to 90.56, a drop of 24 paise from its previous close of 90.32.
Foreign Institutional Investors sold equities worth Rs 2,020.94 crore on Thursday, adding to the downward pressure on the rupee.
Despite the rupee's decline, the domestic equity market saw gains, with the Sensex and Nifty indices rising.
