Apple Reverses Hide My Email Address Change
Apple has a tool called Hide My Email.
It lets people create special email addresses for signing up to websites.
These addresses use the same @icloud.com ending as regular iCloud addresses.
That makes it hard for websites to know whether an address is a privacy address.
Apple proposed changing something about how these addresses work.
Some users worried the change would make the addresses easier to recognize.
They criticized the proposal on social media and Reddit.
Apple then decided not to move forward with the change.
Apple backed down from a proposed change to Hide My Email.
Hide My Email addresses use the familiar @icloud.com domain.
The shared domain makes the addresses difficult for websites to identify as privacy aliases.
The proposed change drew criticism on social media and Reddit.
Some users said the change could undermine Hide My Email’s main purpose.
