Calcutta HC Denies Job on Compassionate Grounds to Son of Deceased Teacher
A man, now an adult, asked the Calcutta High Court for a job on compassionate grounds because his father died 15 years ago.
The court said no, because the law only allows such jobs when the person is a minor, and the application should have been made then, not now.
Petitioner Sayed Shahinoor Zaman applied for a job on compassionate grounds 15 years after his father's death
Calcutta High Court rejected the petition, stating no scope for reservation of vacancies for heirs upon attaining majority
The petitioner's father died in 2010 when Zaman was eight years old
The court noted that the petitioner couldn't prove an application was made for compassionate appointment at the time of death
The court observed that compassionate appointment is not a regular mode of service and is meant to tide over immediate financial crisis
