ITR Filing Deadline Today: Who Must File Now
In India, people who earn money from a job or have small capital gains need to file their tax return by July 31, 2026.
If you run a small business but don't need an audit, you can file until August 31, 2026.
If your business needs an audit, you have until October 31, 2026.
Missing the July 31 deadline can cost you up to Rs 5,000 and extra interest on any tax you owe.
As of today, about 5.02 crore tax returns have been filed for the year 2026-27, which is less than the 6.97 crore filed last year.
Taxpayers eligible for ITR-1 and ITR-2 must file by July 31, 2026.
