Urban Indians Seek Early Retirement Amid Savings Fears

Many people in Indian cities want to stop working earlier than usual.

About seven in ten would like to retire before age 58 to 60 if they have enough money.

Half of these people hope to retire before turning 50.

However, many are worried that their savings will not last long enough.

Only a small share believes their money will last for their entire lifetime.

Nearly four in ten fear their savings could run out within five years of retiring.

Younger people are beginning retirement investing earlier, with some Gen Z respondents starting around age 29.

Older respondents are more likely to keep working because they need regular income.

The study suggests that retirement is increasingly seen as having the freedom to choose whether to work.
