Kishtwar Minor Rape-Murder Probe Transferred to Crime Branch

A 15-year-old girl in Kishtwar was allegedly raped by her school teacher over several months.

She became pregnant and died on August 20 during a procedure to end the pregnancy.

Police had created a special team and detained six people in connection with the case.

One of those arrested was Sonika, a nurse at Kishtwar district hospital.

The girl’s family and local residents wanted a different agency to investigate.

The case has now been transferred to the Jammu and Kashmir Crime Branch.

The Crime Branch said it is beginning to take over the investigation.

A tribal rights commission has also asked senior officials for answers and plans to examine the case.
