HC Seeks Response on PETA Plea for Beagle Rehabilitation
PETA India has asked the Delhi High Court to make Palamur Biosciences, a laboratory in Telangana, rehabilitate 73 beagles and other animals that have been there for too long.
The court has asked the committee that oversees animal experiments to respond.
PETA says the animals should be taken care of by Freagles, but the laboratory refused.
There have been reports of bad conditions and mistreatment of animals at the facility.
The government and the US FDA have also found problems with how the animals are treated.
PETA wants the laboratory to publish details about how animals are used in experiments.
Delhi High Court seeks response from the Committee for Control and Supervision of Experiments on Animals on PETA India's petition for rehabilitation of 73 beagles and other animals from Palamur Biosciences.
PETA India says the animals have remained at the laboratory despite being eligible for rehabilitation and that Freagles has offered to take care of them.
The petition also seeks publication of animal-use data by testing facilities, including species-wise census figures, details of experiments, and records on reuse, rehabilitation, and euthanasia.
A government-appointed inspection report cited failures in animal handling, housing, euthanasia, and veterinary care, and recommended rehabilitation of more than 1,200 animals.
A US FDA warning letter issued in December 2025 cited serious laboratory and animal welfare violations at Palamur Biosciences.
