Telangana High Court Grants Bail in ₹72 Cr Drug Bust
The Telangana High Court has granted bail to two men who were arrested for having a large amount of a chemical called ephedrine.
This chemical can be used to make a dangerous drug called methamphetamine.
The court said that even though the amount was big, it was not considered a 'commercial quantity' under the law.
The men had to promise to appear before the police regularly and pay a bond to get out of jail.
The police said the men were part of a big illegal drug operation, but the court decided to let them out on bail anyway.
Telangana High Court granted bail to two men accused of possessing 225.16 kg of ephedrine, a methamphetamine precursor.
The court ruled that ephedrine is a controlled substance and does not fall under the commercial quantity category of the NDPS Act.
The accused, Maddu Venkata Krishna and Musini Dora Babu, were in jail for over 50 days before the bail was granted.
Bail was granted subject to conditions, including a personal bond of ₹25,000 and weekly appearances before the police.
The prosecution argued that the accused were part of a large-scale illegal drug manufacturing operation, but the court decided to grant bail.
