Bombay HC Holds Stockbroker Pallav Sheth Guilty of Contempt

A 70-year-old stockbroker in India named Pallav Sheth got into serious trouble with the law.

When he had money problems and went through a legal process called insolvency, a court asked him to tell them about all his bank accounts.

Instead of being honest, he hid several accounts at different banks.

The court discovered this and said he had not been truthful.

A judge named Justice NJ Jamadar decided that hiding this information was a crime called contempt of court.

As punishment, Sheth must go to jail for one month and pay a small fine of Rs 2,000.

The court did not believe his excuses, such as saying money from a woman was payment for advice.

The judge said Sheth kept changing his story to suit himself.

Now the court will look at his hidden assets again to try to get back the money he kept secret.
