India's Power Capacity Jumps Significantly in 10 Years
India has significantly boosted its power production over the last decade, with the total amount of electricity generated going up by a lot.
They have also added a lot of new solar and wind power sources and are now getting close to half of their power from sources that do not pollute the air.
This is a part of India's plan to use more green energy and help fight climate change.
India's total installed power capacity rose by 56% from 305 GW (2015-16) to 476 GW (June 2025).
Electricity generation increased from 1,168 billion units (BU) (2015-16) to an estimated 1,824 BU (2024-25).
Power shortages dropped significantly, from 4.2% (2013-14) to 0.1% (2024-25).
Renewable energy capacity nearly tripled, reaching 226.79 GW by June 2025, accounting for 49% of total capacity.
Solar capacity increased over 39 times, from 2.82 GW (2014) to 110.9 GW (2025).
