Brazil Top Court Panel Unanimously Rejects Bolsonaro's Appeal
Brazil's top court judges have voted together, with no one disagreeing, to say no to an appeal from former President Jair Bolsonaro.
He was given a very long prison sentence of over 27 years because the judges decided he tried to plan a coup to stay in power after he lost the election.
His lawyers asked the court to reconsider, but most judges voted to reject his appeal.
One seat on the panel is empty, and one judge had already voted previously.
Bolsonaro is currently under house arrest.
He will not have to go to jail for this sentence until he has tried all possible ways to appeal the decision.
The court also recently put him under house arrest for other reasons, like allegedly trying to get help from Donald Trump in his legal case.
Bolsonaro says he did nothing wrong.
A panel of Brazil's Supreme Court unanimously rejected former President Jair Bolsonaro's appeal against his 27-year prison sentence.
Bolsonaro was sentenced for crimes including organizing a coup, participating in an armed criminal organization, and attempting to violently abolish democracy.
Justices Flavio Dino, Alexandre de Moraes, Cristiano Zanin, and Carmen Lucia voted to reject the appeal.
The former president, who denies wrongdoing, remains under house arrest and will only begin serving his sentence after all appeals are exhausted.
Bolsonaro's son, Eduardo Bolsonaro, also faces a Supreme Court vote on potentially becoming a defendant in a related case.

Bolsonaro's Defense
Bolsonaro's lawyers sought a sentence reduction, implying a lesser role or justification for the lengthy sentence. There is an anticipation that Bolsonaro may argue health concerns for serving his sentence under house arrest.
Prosecution/Court's Majority View
The court's majority found sufficient evidence to convict Bolsonaro of organizing a coup, participating in an armed criminal organization, and attempting to violently abolish democracy, leading to the 27-year, three-month sentence.
