Mumbai Customs Mandates Body-Worn Cameras for Officers
Customs officers at the Mumbai International Cruise Terminal will now wear special cameras on their bodies.
These cameras will record their interactions with passengers.
The recordings will be used as important evidence if there are any legal actions, like detentions or seizures.
The officers will get the cameras from their superiors at the start of their shift and must return them afterward.
They have to tell passengers that they are being recorded.
The cameras can only be used for official purposes and not for personal use.
This new rule is to make sure everything is fair and clear when officers check passengers' bags.
Customs officers at Mumbai International Cruise Terminal must wear Body-Worn Cameras (BWCs) during passenger interactions.
BWCs will serve as critical digital evidence for legal proceedings under the Customs Act.
Officers are advised to wear BWCs during baggage clearance, especially at the Red Channel.
Superintendents will distribute and record the issuance of BWCs at the start of each shift.
Officers must inform passengers and stakeholders that recording is being carried out.
