Mumbai FDA Suspends Food Licences After Widespread Hygiene Violations

Mumbai’s food-safety officials inspected many places that prepare or sell food.

They found problems such as dirt, insects, unsafe storage and missing safety records.

The canteen at Shatabdi Hospital was one of the places whose licence was suspended.

P R Jena Caterers was also suspended after inspectors found flies and food stored near a toilet.

Two bakeries were cited for putting dough or finished food on dirty or uncovered surfaces.

A Sodexo facility had cockroaches, insects in vegetables and waste buildup.

Licences were also suspended at other establishments in Mumbai and nearby districts.

The action was taken because these conditions could contaminate food and make people sick.
