Delhi Detentions Draw Comparisons With Kashmir Restrictions

Several political leaders and protesters were detained in Delhi before a planned protest.

The protest was set to take place at Jantar Mantar.

Its organizers were demanding that Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar resign.

Among those reported detained were Arvind Kejriwal, Mamata Banerjee and Pinarayi Vijayan.

Omar Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti said the situation reminded them of Kashmir.

Mufti pointed to restrictions there after Article 370 was abrogated in 2019.

She said people were kept in their homes and the internet was shut down.

The article does not include a response from officials about the detentions.
