India's Cement Sector Carbon Uptake Report Released
A new report about how much CO2 concrete can absorb in India was released.
The report says the cement industry causes about 7% of human-made greenhouse gas emissions.
It also talks about future plans to make the data better and include this information in national reports to the United Nations.
During the event, two new labs were opened to help with testing and research in the cement and construction industry.
Experts praised the work being done to make the industry more sustainable.
The GCCA India–NCB Carbon Uptake Report assesses CO2 uptake through carbonation in concrete in India.
The cement industry contributes about 7% of total anthropogenic emissions.
The report outlines future actions to improve data robustness and integrate carbon uptake in national sustainability reports.
The report will be submitted to the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change for consideration in National Communications to the UNFCCC.
Two new laboratories, the Gypsum Board Testing Laboratory and Micro-Characterisation Laboratory, were inaugurated during the event.
