Girl's Mouth Closed After 912 Days
A 10-year-old girl had her mouth stuck open for over 900 days because of a rare sickness called Acute Disseminated Encephalomyelitis (ADEM).
This sickness made her nerves not work right, so she couldn't close her mouth.
Doctors in Kolkata tried different treatments, but nothing worked until they removed some of her back teeth.
Now, she can close her mouth, which will help keep her teeth and mouth healthy.
The doctors said this was a very special case and showed how important it is to have the right kind of help for tricky health problems.
A 10-year-old girl's mouth was stuck open for 912 days due to a rare autoimmune neurological disorder called Acute Disseminated Encephalomyelitis (ADEM).
She received treatment at R Ahmed Dental College and Hospital in Kolkata, where doctors removed her posterior teeth to enable her to close her mouth.
The condition caused complications like drying of the oral cavity, loss of jaw balance, and abnormal upward movement of teeth.
A special medical board was formed to plan the treatment, which was deemed medically urgent.
The successful intervention will reduce the risk of future dental erosion and oral infections, while treatment for ADEM continues.
