Indian Aviation Growth Slows, Outlook Revised Downward
Think of the Indian aviation industry as a growing business.
In August, the number of people flying domestically barely increased.
Because of this, experts have lowered their expectations for how much the industry will grow in the next year.
Factors like international events, aircraft issues, and economic issues are contributing to the slowdown.
Fuel prices are down, but other costs, like those related to currency exchange, are still a problem.
Some airlines are doing okay, while others may struggle financially.
Domestic air passenger traffic grew by only 0.3% year-on-year in August 2025.
ICRA has revised its FY26 domestic air passenger growth forecast to 4-6%.
International air traffic growth estimates have also been reduced for FY26.
The aviation sector’s net losses are projected to widen significantly in FY26.
Supply chain disruptions and engine issues led to 133 aircraft being grounded.
