North Korea Missile Barrage Spurs Urgent US, Seoul, Tokyo Talks

North Korea Missile Barrage Spurs Urgent US, Seoul, Tokyo Talks

North Korea fired about a dozen short-range missiles toward the East Sea.

South Korea detected the launches near Pyongyang on Thursday evening.

The United States, South Korea and Japan quickly shared information and discussed how to respond.

The three countries said the launches break United Nations rules.

Japan said the missiles likely landed outside its special sea zone.

The launches happened while the United States and South Korea were conducting military drills.

Those drills were being shortened to encourage talks with North Korea.

North Korea said changing the drills did not remove what it considers their hostile purpose.

President Donald Trump has said he wants to meet North Korean leader Kim Jong Un again.
