IndiGo's Turkish Wet-Lease Permit Ends 2026
The Indian government has decided that IndiGo's permission to use planes leased from Turkey will end in 2026 and will not be extended further.
This is part of a policy to reduce dependence on foreign-leased aircraft.
IndiGo currently uses 15 leased planes, seven of which are from Turkey.
The government says this policy is to ensure that Indian airlines use their own planes more and to protect passengers.
SpiceJet also uses leased planes, but none are from Turkey.
The government has been allowing this practice temporarily because of delays in getting new planes.
IndiGo had asked for an extension because they are waiting for new long-range planes to be delivered.
IndiGo's permission to operate Turkish wet-leased aircraft will end in 2026 with no further extensions.
The Ministry of Civil Aviation has imposed a sunset clause, preventing any additional extensions beyond the current deadline.
IndiGo currently operates 15 wet-leased aircraft, seven of which are from Turkish companies.
SpiceJet operates 17 wet-leased aircraft, none of which are from Turkey.
The government's policy aims to reduce reliance on foreign wet-leased aircraft and ensure Indian carriers use their own fleet.
