Powai Residents Protest Mega Projects Over Infrastructure Concerns
A group of 125 people from Powai and nearby Chandivali met at a local podium to talk about big building projects that are happening in their neighborhood.
They are worried that the new buildings, which include a big center for data and a hotel, will make traffic worse and damage the hills that protect the area.
The people say the area is already crowded and the ground might not hold the extra weight.
The people who are building the projects say they have checked the ground and made sure it is safe.
The residents want the builders to be honest and to make sure the projects will not hurt the community or the environment.
125 residents gathered at Lake Castle Podium to voice concerns about two mega projects in Powai.
Projects include a rehabilitation scheme for Project Affected People, a Global Capacity Centre, and an expanded IT park with service apartments and a hotel.
Residents claim the dense residential area cannot support such projects, citing traffic chaos, infrastructure strain, and ecological damage from hill cutting.
Project proponent BH Sharma says environmental safeguards and a comprehensive EIA were integrated before clearance.
Residents demand transparency, accountability, and a genuine assessment of Powai’s capacity to handle the additional burden.
