Sri Lankan Dog Travels to Indore for Cataract Surgery
Annie is a nine-year-old dog from Sri Lanka.
She developed cataracts, which made the lenses in her eyes look white and reduced her sight.
Her owner brought her to Indore, India, for special eye treatment.
Sri Lanka has only a few veterinary specialists who perform this surgery.
The Indian clinic has experience treating pets with cataracts.
The clinic began manual cataract operations in 2014 and a newer type of surgery in 2016.
Treatment in India can cost much less than in the United States.
Annie will stay in Indore for 10 to 15 days after her operation before going home.
Nine-year-old Yorkshire Terrier Annie traveled from Sri Lanka to Indore for cataract surgery.
Her cataracts whitened her eye lenses and reduced her vision.
Annie’s owner, United States citizen Bethany Ann Hopkins, chose India because specialized veterinary eye surgeons are limited in Sri Lanka.
Dr Narendra Chauhan’s center has performed manual cataract surgeries since 2014 and sutureless phaco surgeries since 2016.
Annie will stay in Indore for about 10–15 days after surgery before returning to Sri Lanka.
