Modi, Xi Handshake Signals Cautious India-China Diplomatic Thaw

Modi, Xi Handshake Signals Cautious India-China Diplomatic Thaw

India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi and China’s President Xi Jinping shook hands at a meeting in Bishkek.

They also spoke briefly with Russia’s President Vladimir Putin nearby.

This happened after India and China had serious tensions along their border.

Those tensions became worse after soldiers were killed in a 2020 clash in the Galwan Valley.

Since then, officials from both countries have held more talks and agreed on some steps to reduce tension.

The handshake shows that the leaders are willing to keep talking.

It does not mean that all disagreements have ended.

The countries still need to manage their border dispute, trade concerns, and other differences.

Their next important meeting may happen at the BRICS Summit in New Delhi.
