Novo Nordisk Seeks Ban on Sun Pharma
Novo Nordisk, a Danish pharmaceutical company, has asked the Delhi High Court to stop Sun Pharmaceutical from dealing in semaglutide, an important drug used for treating type-2 diabetes and obesity.
This request comes after the court allowed another Indian company, Dr. Reddy's Laboratories, to continue making and exporting their version of the drug.
Novo Nordisk has patents on semaglutide that are set to expire soon.
The court is now considering Novo Nordisk's request against Sun Pharma, which wants to enter the market for drugs like semaglutide.
The outcome of this case could affect how affordable these drugs are in India.
Novo Nordisk has filed a new lawsuit in the Delhi High Court to restrain Sun Pharmaceutical from dealing in semaglutide.
The request follows a previous court decision allowing Dr. Reddy's Laboratories to continue manufacturing and exporting semaglutide.
Novo Nordisk's patents on semaglutide are set to expire in September 2024 and March 2026.
Sun Pharma has expressed interest in entering the GLP-1 drug market, which includes semaglutide.
The Delhi High Court has transferred the case to the same judge handling the previous case involving Dr. Reddy's Laboratories.
