Centre Promotes Handloom, Expands Artisan Market Access in Pune

Medha Kulkarni said the government is working to help India’s handloom makers.

Handloom products are made by artisans using traditional weaving methods.

The government is promoting these products and helping artisans find customers.

It also provides schemes and credit facilities for small businesses and artisans.

Kulkarni said traditional saree-making skills should be protected.

She suggested that railway stations could provide space for shops selling local textiles and handicrafts.

A new Nirupa’s showroom has opened on Bhandarkar Road in Pune.

It sells several types of sarees, including Yeola Paithani and Banarasi sarees, at different prices.
