Malaysia to Discuss Myanmar Elections with Military Leaders
Malaysia's foreign minister plans a trip to Myanmar to find out more about their upcoming elections.
He'll lead a group of ministers from other Southeast Asian countries to meet with Myanmar's military leaders.
The goal is to understand if the elections will be fair and to share this information with other leaders in the region.
The elections are planned for December or January.
Some worry that the election might not be legitimate, as opposition groups are banned or unwilling to participate.
This is happening because Myanmar has been in chaos since a coup in 2021.
Malaysia is the current chair of ASEAN, and Myanmar's generals have been blocked from key meetings since 2022.
