Kargil Opens Second Passport Seva Kendra, Easing Travel
Kargil now has a nearby centre for passport-related services.
It is called a Post Office Passport Seva Kendra, or POPSK.
Before it opened, many people had to travel to Leh or Srinagar for this work.
Those journeys could take extra time and money.
The new centre brings these services closer to residents.
It may help people travelling abroad for education or jobs.
It may also help people going on Haj or Umrah pilgrimages.
This is the second POPSK in Ladakh, after the one in Leh.
Kirti Vardhan Singh and Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena inaugurated a POPSK in Kargil on September 2, 2026.
The facility is Ladakh’s second Passport Seva Kendra after Leh and the country’s 457th POPSK.
The Ministry of External Affairs established it with the Department of Posts at Kargil’s sub-post office.
