Tim Cook’s Journey From Apple Operations Chief to CEO

Tim Cook’s Journey From Apple Operations Chief to CEO

Tim Cook joined Apple in 1998 to help manage its operations.

He worked on making Apple’s factories, warehouses, and supply chain more efficient.

His team reduced the time Apple kept products in inventory from months to days.

They also invested early in supplies that were later used in products such as the iPod Nano, iPhone, and iPad.

As Cook took on more responsibilities, he helped run Apple’s daily business while Steve Jobs was on medical leave.

Cook became Apple’s CEO in 2011 after Jobs resigned.

As CEO, he changed how senior executives worked together and focused on people, strategy, and execution.

In 2026, Cook is scheduled to become executive chairman while John Ternus becomes CEO.
