Yankees Acquire Ryan Weathers in Four-Prospect Trade
The New York Yankees have traded four prospects to the Miami Marlins to get a pitcher named Ryan Weathers.
The Yankees needed more pitchers because some of their main ones are hurt.
Ryan Weathers is a left-handed pitcher who has some good skills but has had some injuries.
The Yankees hope he can help their team while they get their injured pitchers back.
The Marlins get four young players who could help them in the future.
Ryan Weathers has a father who used to play for the Yankees and won a World Series with them.
The Yankees think they can help Ryan Weathers improve and stay healthy.
The New York Yankees acquired left-handed pitcher Ryan Weathers from the Miami Marlins in exchange for four prospects: Brendan Jones, Dillon Lewis, Dylan Jasso, and Juan Matheus.
The trade aims to bolster the Yankees' starting rotation, which has been affected by injuries to key pitchers like Gerrit Cole, Carlos Rodon, and Clarke Schmidt.
Ryan Weathers, son of former Yankees reliever David Weathers, has a 4.93 ERA with 235 strikeouts over 281 innings but has durability concerns and has never exceeded 18 starts in a season.
The Yankees had explored other pitching options, including Edward Cabrera, Freddy Peralta, and MacKenzie Gore, before finalizing the deal for Weathers.
The Miami Marlins receive a strong influx of young position-player talent, aligning with their focus on rebuilding through prospects.
