India Boosts Fertiliser Imports Amid Global Disruptions
India has been importing large quantities of urea and DAP to meet the domestic demand for fertilisers.
The government has taken steps to diversify import sources and secure long-term supply agreements with countries like Saudi Arabia and Russia.
This is to ensure that the supply of fertilisers remains stable despite global disruptions.
The government has also been working to reduce dependence on China by sourcing fertilisers from other countries like Belgium, Egypt, Germany, Morocco, and the USA.
These efforts aim to strengthen India's fertiliser supply security and mitigate risks from global supply chain disruptions.
India imported 25.08 lakh tonnes of urea and 7.11 lakh tonnes of DAP during April-June 2026.
Total fertiliser production in Q1 2026-27 was 115.72 lakh tonnes, with urea production at 71.55 lakh tonnes and DAP at 9.84 lakh tonnes.
